Spring Cleaning Tips

The sun is getting warmer, the days are getting longer, and the first blossoms are finally making an appearance. There are no doubts about it: spring is finally here, and with its arrival, spring cleaning is likely at the forefront of your mind.

Whether you are looking to sell your home, buy a new home or just tidy up your space as you look forward to summer, now is the perfect time to clear out the clutter, get rid of the dust bunnies and give your home the tender, love and care it needs after a long winter.

Here are our best spring 2020 cleaning tips:

1. Start by decluttering your home
Decluttering your house is the first step to a good spring cleaning. Not only will you have fewer things to clean, but it will also be a lot easier to access each surface as needed. Eliminate clothes in bad shape or out of fashion, as well as the ones you never reach for when switching your wardrobe from winter to summer. As you go through your cupboards, get rid of food items and medicines that are past their expiration date. Let go of seasonal décor that’s broken, and so on. In no time, your home will already feel a lot roomier and cleaner.

2. Let in some fresh air
Cleaning your windows to let the sunshine in will instantly make your home look brighter. While you are at it, give all windows treatments a good spruce up as well to eliminate cobwebs and dust. Some curtains are washable, but you may need to bring more delicate window coverings to the dry cleaner. Months spent indoors can leave the air feel stale, so open doors and windows as often as possible whenever the weather allows.

3. Don’t forget neglected surfaces
While most people clean their floors regularly, other surfaces are usually neglected during your regular cleaning routine. For example, your walls, ceilings, baseboards, door frames, etc. could probably benefit from a good scrub down. If those elements still look shabby despite your best efforts, spring is also a great time to add a coat of fresh paint for a brand new look at an affordable cost.

4. Give the outdoors some love
The winter months are not always kind to your front and backyard. Between debris, dead grass and overgrown vegetation, your garden often needs a little extra love to look its best. Spring is the perfect time to set yourself up for a beautiful gardening season. Be diligent about mowing your lawn and remove the last dead leaves. Cut back bushes around the windows to let the light in. Don’t hesitate to transplant some flowers to add a touch of color if necessary!

Not only will getting started on spring cleaning help you feel better in your home, but it is also a great first step if you are considering selling your property this year. Did you know that spring is the prime real estate season? By sprucing up your property, you are also making your house a lot more attractive for potential buyers when the time comes.
